Vessels and the islands
Some places can't be walked to. The islands lie off the road, and the only way there is aboard a vessel that really sails between fixed stops, in the same shared world as everyone else.
Catching a vessel
- Each line calls at a dock in a town: a jetty with a timetable board that says when the next one is due or leaves.
- Vessels keep a timetable of their own: each docks for a little while, then crosses in a minute or two (the lines are below). Every cat sees the same vessel at the same moment.
- While it is in, its gangplank is down: walk onto it to board. If it isn't in yet, your cat waits on the jetty and boards when it comes.
- Fares are free. The Moth Coach never goes to an island.
- On full auto, or with Go on the map, your cat walks to the dock, waits, rides across and goes ashore by itself.
Aboard
- The deck is shared: you ride with every other cat aboard.
- There is fishing at the rail, with catches particular to each line, docked or under way.
- Out at sea, some crossings are raided: boarders come over the side, and everyone aboard fights them together for the usual loot. A cat busy fishing at the rail keeps its head down and is left out.
- Stay aboard to ride on to the next stop. You can ride a whole line, but the harbourmaster won't let you ashore anywhere you haven't opened yet.
- If you log out aboard, your cat is set down at the next stop that lets it ashore.
